Warm November

So here in Massachusetts we have been very lucky with some pretty weekend weather in November so far. Knock On Wood.

I was able to finish up my homework so now I have a free day, what to do? Part of me wants to do nothing, the other part is it is time for a bike ride. To the Quabbin? To Connecticut? or do I challenge myself to a Worcester ride. I am sorry but I LOATH the hills of Worcester

Well just came into tickets to tonight's Pat's game, I hate watching sports on TV but I can deal with football in person... Now who is coming with me...

Busy Gal

Been a busy gal the last week and the rest of the week is just as busy.....

Monday night I went up to Woburn after work and had dinner with a boy at Lanna Thai Diner, the cool part is that it is an actual Diner. I enjoyed my dinner of Mango Curry w/Tofu. I have to think if when I prepared tofu it came out like the tofu in his dish I would cook it myself much more often.
I have been working out each night when I get home from work, just becoming part of my routine again. YAY, I am down 12 pounds since the 2nd week of October, I contribute much of it to decreased stress levels. I want to get back into great shape by spring.

Yesterday I was offered a position at FC- Rev Ops in Worcester, it is a Temp to Perm, at least 6 Months with a very good chance of going perm. Plus it gets my foot in the door and allows me to focus on my credentials. The hours will work in my favor as I will most likely be able to get a position in the HIM office at St V's part time. The best part is with this job I walk out my front door, cross the commons and I am at work. No driving in the winter, no snow battles. I am taking a risk with this position but upon consoling with many and some deep thinking on my part I have decided it was the best move for me at this time. The money I will save on gas and tolls and the 15 hours a week of being in a car will be well worth it.

So last night went to the Abbey with Gabe and had a couple drinks to celebrate the new job downtown, across from home. Yay for me. Tried a 750ml bottle of West County Winery Cider, which was like drinking an apple in.

Tonight I head to Wellesley and take part in a Flip Top Box making class at the Paper Source. Pictures to follow....

Time for People to Start Thinking....

about Massachusetts Senate race......

I already know who has my vote ! Alan Khazei, I spent 2 years in Americorps a whole decade ago and as Alan who was co-founder of City Year in Boston back in 1988 and also CEO and Co Founder of Be the Change in Boston. This man bleeds service to others. I believe he will be able to follow in the footsteps of Ted Kennedy and bring even more.
Alan also worked with the late Senator Kennedy to create the Serve America Act, this opened up another 175K Americorps/National Service opportunities.

Volunteer next weekend in the statewide canvassing for Khazei.

Luxury Loft Peeping...

On Wednesday I went to Boston in the afternoon to meet up with my friend James. He is an apartment broker in Boston. The company he works for specializes in lofts in the Boston area. I really wanted to check out a couple. I fell in love!!!!!

This one loft downtown had direct elevator to apartment access, you inserted your key and pressed the floor and you were in the living room area. Beautiful contemporary kitchen with Jenn-Air appliances. Two Bed- 2 Full bathrooms, beautiful sea foam green glass tile in one bathroom and blue in the next. The apartment had ample storage and beautiful built in closets. The hustle and bustle of the street down below on a Wednesday afternoon could not be heard. Now if only I could afford it I would have taken it right then and there. But I have a goal to work towards.

We looked at a few places, but that one was my favorite out of the ones I viewed, maybe it was that elevator to unit. That was awesome, I have dreamed of something like that my whole life, expect it would be more "freight" elevator like.

Had a late lunch at Amrhein's Restaurant in South Boston. Good food, I was full half way through lunch but the homemade plum tomato bisque and amazing grilled cheese. Then headed home, being a holiday the traffic was light...

Sage Francis, B Dolan, Cecil Otter, Sleep/ DJ Zone and Prolyphic

So Tuesday night was the Strange Famous show at Harper's Ferry. I could not miss the show for the world, as many know of my strong love for all things Sage.
The show was great!!!!
Cecil Otter started out things, making a few jokes about plaid shirts and boat shoes, I was very impressed. After his set was B Dolan and Sleep w/ DJ Zone. Both men were having some "sick" issues and had horse voices but performed damn good to spit. Then Sage with B Dolan and special guest-Prolyphic (hum I love by the way) did "Survived Another Winter"
Finally Sage came on and put a great 2 hour'ish set on, it was one continuous set/mix from DJ No Spin (not a DJ at all). It was a great time and always I did not want the night to end but around 1ish it did and I got in my car and drove back to the Woo.

Looking forward to next years projects from Sage, maybe a live band even though is thinks that bands hurt hip hop instead of helping it, sorry I remember LOVING the "Fuck Clear Channel" tour with Gruvis Malt.

So when did the end of the 7th week of my term at school appear. I have SOOOO much to do. I have a paper to write this weekend, two finals to study for... Ugg so I need to take a break from my social calendar to work on my paper this weekend.

Saturday Halloween Party and I do not even have a costume put together yet and Sunday night Family Night in Connecticut with Apples to Apples, Beer and Pizza...

My car was appraised today and there was about 3600 dollars in damages, now just waiting for the liability to come back, there shouldn't be an issue.

A BIG SUV tried to eat my car for dinner. Yesterday coming home from work I was T-boned by a Chevy Suburban. Needless to say this has been a day of insurance, rental cars and police accident reports. Sighhhhhh
I am Ok... Just look at my poor car

Weekend Antics...

This was a catching up with people kind of weekend...

Friday night I headed down to Connecticut to my sisters for game night. It was my folks, my sister and her boyfriend and me. We played Apples to Apples and ate yummy food. It was nice to hang out all together and do something like that, I don't have the family that gets together often, always has to be a special event so it was a good night. Wish Mike and Sam could have made it too...

Saturday was a very busy day for me between errands, getting my hair cut, school work and a little nap all before 3:30... Then headed back down to Connecticut (man if only my job was not so far I would have just moved back down there) for "Girls Night Out" with some old friends. We meet up at Coopers in Putnam to eat, drink, and chat.. Here is a couple pics from dinner. We are missing the few ladies who showed up later, yes you Erin, Kelly and Jess.

Was great seeing all the ladies a couple I have not seen in 10 years, so catching up was great. Shannon drove from Boston and Shelly from NY to come out for the night.

About half of us, the ones who did not have to go home to take care of their babies :) went over to 85 Main Street for more drinks. Then like 6 of us went over for shits and giggles to Chickerings which is the prime example of "dive" bars, they only have Busch beer on tap..Ugg
But there was some crazy antics going on there where my girl Erin was trying to get the attention of all the white trash men for fun. That bar has been there FOREVER and I have never as much stepped in the door, it was a bit scary at first. I will have some pics to post later, most likely pics that some people do not want posted...

Today I went out and about with my girlie Beth... I bought some pretty curtains for the "living area" windows, now I just need a curtain rod...Damn

I am getting used to the new place, it is still weird but it is starting to feel home like and the kitties are settling in well. Even though my baby Johnny likes under the bed :)

New Place

In the new place, got a lot done this weekend but still have some decorating to complete. I didn't sleep a wink last night, I watched the time go by one hour at a time. Large Studio, has a nice long hallway upon entering the apartment that will need some major done to it and a VERY large closet.
Here are some pics for your viewing..

FREE

Been on an Audio-books kick with my long commute each week. I figure I am in the car about 3 hours a day and I get so tired of listening to the same news over and over again.
Just finished a "Free" download from Audible.com called "Free- The Future of a Radical Price" by Chris Anderson the editor of Wired Magazine.

The book is about the economics of "free". From a B1G1 business plan to digital free. He breaks down how huge companies such as Microsoft and Facebook allow for "free". The biggest business model that is spoken about is the "Freemium" the model that 5% of your customers will support the other 95%, meaning if you have a free version and a premium version that an individual can purchase, in bits, not atoms that 5% of those will become premium members and in turn pay for the amount of receiving that service to those who do not pay.

I am not an economist, I have not taken financial coursework, but the audio-book was great to listen to and I believe I learned a bit about the economics of "free".

Chris Anderson wanted to be able to test the "free" theory so he made the paper copy of this book for sale, while giving or "gifting" the digital format.

Very much recommended.
NY Times Book Review- written much better than mine :)
